Home Shopping

January 2, 2009

Matt and I will be on the road all day, so I don’t have time to post much here, but I wanted to give you something to look at while I’m gone. Here’s a drawing I did about a year and a half ago that I never got around to putting online:

This is a composition in ink and watercolors entitled: “Home Shopping.” I did this as part of an illustration class at CSU. I can’t remember the exact wording of the assignment, but it was something along the lines of needing to create a creative illustration from a headline and simple description for an imaginary magazine or newspaper. In this case, the story was about the home shopping network: shopping by phone or computer.

The floor is a little crooked – I think it was intentional but it’s not really working for me now, but otherwise I think it’s a fairly strong piece. Might be worth doing it over with better planned angles. Or just redoing the bottom of the painting, since I’m pleased with everything on the top half.Potentially it would work as a horizontal illustration, cut off just below the cashier’s hip.

You can click on the image if you’d like to see a larger version, with a bit more detail.

And now, off to Pennsylvania!
